Why We Ride
The Genesis of
Mud, Sweat and Beers
MSB is a local group of beer-lovin mountain bikers that began riding together in 2001. Join us as we ride to support a great local institution: the nonprofit Mt. Holiday Ski and Recreation Area.
In 2005, a group of inexperienced bike riders began to meet every Wednesday during the spring, summer and fall. This group, which includes men and women, remains dedicated to the art of getting dirty and sweaty together, usually on the VASA big loop, VASA Single Track and vast network of unmarked single track. After the ride, beers are optional...sort of.
In our years of riding together there has been one common element: fun. We hope you feel the same after a day of riding in the warm spring sun with us!
Come out and support a great cause - all proceeds go to Mt. Holiday Recreation Area and other local non-profit organizations that support kids.
And why did we choose Mt. Holiday? Not only is it one of Traverse City's best-kept secrets (the wood-fired stove in the cozy bar...local beers...great food) but it also helps disadvantaged kids get off their couches and on the ski/snowboard hill. As a 501(c)3, Mt. Holiday provides free lessons, rentals, and more to school-age kids who utilize their school's free lunch program. It's a safe, fun place for kids who might not otherwise have anywhere to go during the winter.
